The base of this build is a 2-stroke, 1975 Yamaha RD350. It was my dad’s when he was in college, and he had it built up to race with the expansion chamber pipes, gold DG heads, and drag bars. One day, when he was at the track, one of the fuel lines popped off, dumped fuel on the hot pipes, and the whole thing went up in flames. All the plastiscs melted off, and just metal was left. My dad’s friend Ken scraped together much of what was needed to put it back together, then the parts all sat in boxes for years. I grew up seeing the bare frame in our garage and eventually started sorting all the bits to put it back together. I went for a reso-mod, cafe-racer style. I cleaned up the frame lines, assembled the motor end, synced the carbs, rebuilt the brake calipers, fitted it with modern electronics, custom-made a seat, and bent up a slim electronics tray to hold everything, including tools and extra spark plugs that are needed when constantly fouling them. This bike is a scary fucker to ride! When you hit the power-ban, it takes off, with or without you. It's definitely more of a drag bike than a cornerer. Cool to get it running again and still have it in the family.
